Plant Based For You

Plant Based For You Inc. provides "plant-based recipes, education, support as well as high quality, handcrafted food products and services.

NaturalCurlJunkie.com started the year off right. We visited with Plant Based For You, the up-and-coming NYC based business that is "passionate about food justice," for their amazing "New Year, New Food!" 2018 event at Manifest BK

Have you ever been more convinced that someone is finally here to help you eat right? I mean they are passionate about, "FOOD JUSTICE." And they are NOT KIDDING. Being from Maryland, a southern girl at heart, they totally had me at the BBQ baked beans, vegan cornbread with honey butter, and kale greens. YUM YUM YUM and Healthy! The menu also included: Sweet Potato Lo Mein, Sunseed Meatballs with Spinach Basil Pesto, Sweet Potato Hash Brown Waffles with Chive Cashew Sour Cream, Herbal Popcorn, Quinoa Brittle and Mulled Apple Cider.  That cider made me scream out "BOTTLE IT UP!!!" It was truly a pleasure to be in the midst of 2 young people that together are going to change the world. Monica and John are passionate about food and both are VEGAN. The duo teams up for events, workshops, conferences, even catered events. You guys need to seriously check them out!

Road to becoming a Barber

I am on my way to becoming a master barber.

Although, it takes 10 years, or 3,650 days, to master the skill of barbering and I have 3,636 days to go and I am so down for the ride. With 2 weeks complete, I am excited to be a part of the Long Island Barber Institute (LIBI), the only accredited barbering institute in Long Island, NY. I am also honored to be a  part of the 1st ALL FEMALE class at LIBI. S/O to  @sweep_the_leg_jonna, my classmate and everyone at the Long Island Barber Institute. I am excited to see NaturalCurlJunkie expand and gain skills from an institute that truly has my best interest at heart.

This is truly an experience of a lifetime.

Darrin "DL" Lyons @dlmasterbarber gave an inspirational speech on Monday to the students, instructors, and admin staff at LIBI. In case you don't know (because I didn't), Mr. DL is the creator of the "Juice fade." The iconic fade worn by the late Tupac Shakur in the classic movie "Juice." We were all mesmerized and captivated by his gripping words of wisdom. It was like music to my ears and affirmed that I was making a life changing decision with endless possibilities. His 5 Rules to Success, which happen to be very close to my own were, (1) God First (amen), (2) Self, (3) Family, (4) Business, (5) Friends; and in that order. Barbering does not end behind the chair. The opportunities that arise in the tonsorial industry lead many not just into barbering, but into education, business management, traveling, and networking. I am excited that I am at an institution that really focuses on each student's success. From the instructors and students, the admin staff truly encourage everyone to be successful.

Success is a CHOICE...Your choice!

I have not forgotten about my Marylanders.
